This is an initiative which started over ten years ago, whereby the union provided medical coverage for its members at a minimal cost. The initial premium was $37.00.However, with an increase in membership, it was felt that the scheme would be in a better

position if it were managed by the locally owned State Insurance Cooperation. This move greatly increased the levels of benefits, and naturally, premiums increased. The scheme now provide members with four areas of coverage; General Health, Vision, Dental and Naturopathic Care. Teachsurance has the distinguished reputation of being one of the few schemes which provide coverage for naturopathic medicine.
